We have had a busy couple of weeks painting the main barn and both Owl & Orchard Barn - it is all looking quite smart and after the late start to spring we have been enjoying the blossom for longer this year than we cane remember.
The Beast from the East
9th Mar 2018, 10:10
Well in our 7 years in Sisland we have not seen snow like it! We were very fortunate that the local farmers took it upon themselves to clear the roads so we were not completely cut off for long. Sisland did look absolutely beautiful under a blanket of white and it was magical seeing the barn owl hunting for food over snow covered field. Just a week on and we now have Spring bulbs just coming into flower. Nature is a wonderful, if unpredictable thing!
Spring is round the corner!

With the temperature varying daily, it is lovely to see snowdrops out and bulbs popping up. The Barn Owl is very active - not many people who can list a barn own on the RSPB Garden Bird Watch!

Orchard Barn bathroom has been revamped and is now up and running - looking great. Hope the December guests enjoy it.
16th Nov 2017, 15:06
Whilst things are slightly quieter, we undertake a few maintenance tasks - this November is the turn for a revamp of the Orchard barn bathroom; it is starting to take shape with the new shower cubicle installed. Hopefully we will be decorating in there next week.
Seals at Horsey
22nd Oct 2017, 12:07
I walked the dogs along the beach at Horsey a couple of weeks ago - very surprised to see that the seal colonies have already started to arrive for the Winter - a stunning sight and a lovely beach walk too.

Thank you to all who supported the Craft Fair - Despite the weather forecast, it did stay dry and I am sure the charities have done very well.

After a very busy Summer our attention turns to our Craft Fair this weekend - we have over 80 stallholders showing off their talents, hopefully raising lots of money for the East Anglian Children's Hospice 'Nook Appeal' and the Sheffield Childrens Hospital.

It's that time of year again - Sisland Carr is starting to look spectacular with its carpet of bluebells. Our current guests and their 2 dogs are enjoying their daily walks up there.

5th Apr 2017, 15:49
Just finished getting Elle de Vardo, the gypsy caravan ready for our first guests of the season - Glamping in April - I hope the weather stays good for them!
4th Mar 2017, 15:43
Storm Doris left its mark with an inconvenient power cut a few fences issues - and we moved into March - spring flowers popping up and the occasional beautiful day. Lots of guest staying and plenty of hungry people to feed - we had a group here yesterday celebrating a 90th birthday. Never two days the same at Sisland Tithe barn!
Spring is round the corner

What a difference a week makes - last Monday we were shivering, still evidence of the snowfalls we had over the weekend - this Monday, blue skies, birds singing and bulbs just about to burst into flower. In Norfolk we have hardly had a winter at all but as the days get longer we can look forward to grass cutting!
Chilly - but stunning big Norfolk Skies
23rd Jan 2017, 18:10
Although the temperatures are not great in Norfolk at the moment, it is worth it just for the fantastic red skies, morning and evening. They really are special. We can also report that there are two barn owls flying around on a regular basis. They feed on voles and obviously prefer it when the ground isn't frozen - on the positive side, we have not had any rain for over a week now - Barn Owls can not fly in wet weather so they should be getting enough food.
Norfolk - a year round destination
29th Nov 2016, 12:28
The Grey Seal population is growing - the latest weekly 'pup count' was 493 pups at Horsey alone. Why not treat yourself to a winter break?

We are looking forward to catering tonight at Woodcote in Hethersett.
